SURFACE DESIGN – A GUIDED TOUR

We invite you to join us for a Guided Tour of Surface Design at Treehaven, near Tomahawk, Wisconsin on Nov 18-20th 2011.

Prerequisite: Know how to do a straight stitch on your sewing machine.

Not only will you try out 6 different techniques, you will go home with one or two finished projects using the fabric you have created.  As with any good tour you will also have time provided to further explore your favorite newly discovered techniques.

During this tour you will visit (see samples below)
            Flour Paste Resist
            Gelatin Printing
            Crazy Beading
            Crazy Quilting
            Soy Wax Batik
            Foil on Fabric

SCHEDULE FOR THE RETREAT
Friday Evening – 6:00 PM – A trunk show by the fireplace with snacks, wine and soft drinks introducing your tour guides, Jamie and Louise.  They’ll show samples of their work and a preview of the weekend’s activities.  Use this as an opportunity to get oriented and socialize with tour guides and other participants.

Saturday – 9 AM - The tour begins as each technique is demonstrated and explained.  Before moving on to something new each participant will create their own fabric piece(s) using that technique.  Before dinner you will have 6+ fabric samples of your own creation.

6:00 PM – meet by the fireplace again for feedback and introduction of project options you can choose from to make your new fabrics into a one of a kind finished piece.  You can work till 10:00 PM doing more work with your favorite techniques learned during the day, start a project or just relax by the fire.

Sunday – The guided tour continues as you choose the project/projects you want to work on.  We have projects in mind, including a clutch handbag, wall hanging, or pillow top, but you may follow your muse if desired.  Whatever you choose, we will be available for questions whether it's about things we have taught, making choices about your project or other aspects of surface design and quilting.  At 3 PM we say goodbye and look forward to our next tour together.

What to bring: sewing machine, thread, general sewing supplies, camera if desired.

We will have shared stations set up for cutting and pressing. You may bring your own: Rotary cutter, cutting mat, iron, small ironing mat, if you prefer.

The supply fee will include all fabric and other supplies needed to complete all six techniques and your finished projects. However, you may want to bring additional fabrics from your stash for further exploration, small yardage or fat quarters. Solid or textured fabrics work best (see below). For your convenience we will also have additional fabrics for purchase.
